Late Evening Pedestrian Accident on 880 Freeway in Fremont Turns Deadly

 
FREMONT, CA (June 13, 2021) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident on 880 Freeway in Fremont late Thursday evening, June 10.
 
The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. near the Alvarado Boulevard exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry was traveling southbound when it struck a piece of equipment, a metal and plastic attenuator, that began the split of the third and fourth lanes on the freeway as part of a long-term construction project.
 
After the crash, the Camry became disabled and came to rest on the freeway. The driver then got out of the car, stood in the lane second farthest from the left when a Ford Fusion struck him.
 
As a result, the driver of the Camry suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities did not immediately identify the person, pending notification of relatives.
 
The driver of the Ford stayed at the scene and spoke with the CHP. The agency said they do no believe the Ford’s driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol but are unsure about the Toyota driver.
 
The crash blocked all lanes of the freeway, and a severe traffic alert was in effect until 1:15 a.m. Friday.
 
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
