Driver Dies after Car Overturns Triggering a Multi-Vehicle Crash on 80 Freeway in San Pablo

 
SAN PABLO, CA (February 28, 2023) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on 80 Freeway in San Pablo Saturday morning on February 25.
 
The accident happened just before 6:00 a.m. near the San Pablo Dam Road exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was driving a black Honda CRV when his car overturned, triggering a multi-car pileup on the eastbound freeway.
 
The driver then got out of his car but was struck by another vehicle. He died at the scene.
 
Several other cars then crashed into the overturned car.
 
No other injuries were reported.
 
The crash and the cleanup and investigation caused a full closure of the eastbound 80 Freeway for nearly four hours. Drivers were re-routed until all lanes were reopened at 9:00 a.m.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
