Deadly Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Hit-and-Run Driver on 5 Freeway in Chula Vista

 
CHULA VISTA, CA (November 29, 2023) – One person was killed in a hit-and-run chain-reaction crash on 5 Freeway in Chula Vista late Monday evening on November 27.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:36 p.m. near Palomar Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a car was stalled in the middle lanes of southbound 5 Freeway when it was hit by other passing motorists. The impact caused a chain-reaction involving at least six other vehicles. One of the cars was cut in half.
 
One person was ejected from their vehicle and died at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld the victim’s identity pending next of kin notification.
 
No other information available at this time. The CHP is investigating the crash as a hit-and-run.
