Head-On Accident on Highway 101 in Hopland Leaves One Dead

 
HOPLAND, CA (June 16, 202) – One person was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 101 near Highway 175 in Mendocino County Tuesday morning.
 
The accident happened around 7:00 a.m. on June 15, just south of Frog Woman Rock. According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorhome was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when it veered to the left across the center median. It then went into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Mack semi truck hauling paper.
 
The impact of the crash sent the big rig down the embankment in the dry riverbed next to the Russian River.
 
The unidentified driver of the motorhome was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig suffered major injuries. Responding units airlifted him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition.
 
The cause and factors of the crash remain under investigation.
