Driver Dies in Fresno County Crash with Semi Truck on Highway 33
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (August 17, 2021) – One person was killed in a fiery accident on Highway 33 near Firebaugh early Monday morning.
The accident happened just before 3:30 a.m. on August 16, near Douglas Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Veloster was traveling southbound on the highway when it suddenly veered into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with a semi truck hauling tomatoes.
The impact of the crash caused the Hyundai to catch fire. Firefighters were able to put out the flames.
Paramedics found the male driver inside the burning Hyundai and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi truck sustained minor injuries. Emergency personnel took him to a local hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
