Car Crashes into Firebaugh Canal at Russell Avenue and Althea Avenue Killing at Least One

 
FIREBAUGH, CA (August 18, 2021) – At least one person was killed in a car accident at North Russell Avenue and West Althea Avenue Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 9:50 a.m. on August 16. According to the Fresno Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle had crashed into a canal near the intersection. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle completely submerged about 50 feet off the canal bank.
 
Dive teams responded and found at least one fatality. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
Officers said the vehicle was abandoned after the crash.
 
It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
