Passenger Dies after Santa Clara DUI Crash at Lawrence Expressway and Poinciana Drive
SANTA CLARA, CA (September 14, 2022) – 40-year-old Oakland resident My Kin Phan was killed in a DUI crash in Santa Clara early Sunday morning, September 11.
The fatal crash happened around 1:54 a.m. at Lawrence Expressway and Poinciana Drive. According to the Santa Clara Police Department, a vehicle was traveling southbound on Lawrence Expressway when it drifted to its right, striking a traffic signal pole on a traffic island at the intersection.
Kin Phan suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was one of the passengers in the car.
The 36-year-old driver and a 35-year-old passenger both sustained major injuries. Paramedics took them to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said they had forwarded criminal complaints to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for possible driving under the influence with injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Further investigation is underway.
