Motorcyclist Dead in Multi-Vehicle Accident on 80 Freeway near Gilman Street

 
BERKELEY, CA (November 18, 2022) — A motorcycle rider died in a multi-vehicle crash on the 80 Freeway on Thursday, November 17.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to reports of an accident in the westbound lanes of 80 Freeway, east of the Gilman Street on-ramp just after 1:25 p.m.
 
When officers arrived at the area, they determined that the motorcyclist was lane-splitting between the two leftmost lanes. Then a Mazda in the far-left lane struck the motorcyclist, and the rider fell to the ground. Afterward, a tow truck struck the motorcycle rider who was on the roadway.
 
Despite paramedics’ life-saving efforts, the rider died on the roadway. Alameda County Sheriff’s coroner’s bureau has not released their identity pending notification of loved ones.
 
CHP officers issued a Sig-alert at 1:51 p.m. and closed the roadway’s three left-most lanes. Additionally, they advised motorists and residents to avoid the area. Officials reopened the traffic at about 3:30 p.m.
 
The CHP continues to investigate the accident.
