Fuel Spill and Minor Injuries Reported After Big Rigs, Cars Collide on Mitchell Road in Modesto

 
MODESTO, CA (December 14, 2023) — Minor injuries were reported after 17 vehicles crashed on Mitchell Road near Finch Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle accident happened around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday. During foggy weather conditions, 15 cars and three big rigs collided. Before that, traffic investigators received a call about what appeared to be a fog bank hovering over Stanislaus County waterways, leading vehicles to break abruptly.
 
Subsequently, the Modesto Fire Department and Department of Environmental Resources responded. Upon arriving, officials found a diesel spill of about 150 gallons. Fortunately, the reported injuries appeared to be minor.
 
Due to the crash, crews closed the Mitchell Road Bridge to investigate during the morning.
