39-Year-Old Woman Dies after Struck by Car while Running Across Gerber Road

 
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (May 25, 2023) – Melina Griset Alvarez was killed in a pedestrian accident in Sacramento County late Friday evening on May 19.
 
The fatal accident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Gerber Road, just east of Waterman Road. According to the CHP, a 29-year-old Sacramento man was driving a white 2019 Prius eastbound. As the car went through the Waterman Road intersection with a solid green light, Alvarez ran directly in front of the Prius.
 
The car’s front end struck Alvarez, who was thrown about 20 feet in an easterly direction before her body came to rest in an embankment about 3 feet off the road.
 
Alvarez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 39-year-old Sacramento resident, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
 
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
The CHP determined that alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
