U-Haul Driver Matthew Messick Arrested after Fresno County Crash

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (May 20, 2021) – Authorities arrested 35-year-old Matthew Messick following a high-speed chase on Olive Avenue, early Monday morning.
 
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. Deputies reportedly attempted to pull a U-Haul over, but the driver sped away.
 
The fleeing vehicle reached speeds up to 95 miles per hour before hitting a parked semi-truck in the area of Olive Avenue and Hayes Avenue.
 
Then, the driver exited the wrecked vehicle, ran from the scene, and entered an occupied house.
 
Sheriff’s investigators arrived and set up a perimeter around the house. They called for everyone to come outside, but Messick did not comply. As per reports, Messick later armed himself with several knives.
 
A short time later, Messick surrendered and was taken into custody.
 
Deputies revealed that Messick was on probation for domestic violence and had a warrant out for his arrest. Messick will face new charges, including felony evading, resisting arrest, and probation violation.
 
When pulled over, slow down and patiently wait for further instructions. Carefully choose where you stop and talk to the officer in a calm manner. Cooperate and do not attempt to flee the scene.
