SLO Couple Found Dead in Creekbed after Likely Struck by Speeding Car

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (December 1, 2022)Matthew Chachere and Jennifer Besser were killed in a pedestrian accident in San Luis Obispo late Monday afternoon on November 21.

The fatal accident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Sacramento Drive. According to the San Luis Obispo Police Department, the couple was walking their dog in the area when speeding car struck them.

After hitting them, the car struck a curb, a street sign and part of a bridge.

A couple of days later, the dog was found dead in the creekbed. Police also recovered the bodies of Chachere, 39, and his girlfriend Besser, 36, under heavy brush.

Since the bodies were found, police interviewed the involved drive, a 24-year-old San Luis Obispo man.

Police believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash. They asked anyone with further information to contact Detective Jeff Koznek at 805-594-8005.
