Train Strikes Vehicle in South LA Killing Two People

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (February 25, 2023) – Marvin Padilla and Jose Hernandez were killed in a train crash in South Los Angeles Monday night on February 20.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:15 p.m. at 1629 East 24th Street, several blocks south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a car made a left turn in front of the oncoming Metro A line train, leading to the crash.
 
Responding firefighters found several passengers trapped inside the car. They extricated two of the occupants, who died at the scene.
 
The other three, who were also inside the car, were rushed to local hospitals in fair-to-moderate conditions.
 
No injuries were reported among the train’s roughly 125 passengers and two train operators.
 
The coroner’s office identified the two deceased victims as Padilla, 46, and Hernandez, 40, both Los Angeles County residents.
 
At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
