2 Killed in Rollover Fiery Crash on Highway 99 in Madera County
MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 6, 2023) — A man and a woman died in a rollover fiery accident on Highway 99 near Avenue 18 1/2.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car accident happened around 5:10 p.m. Saturday. For unknown reasons, a driver of a Toyota C-HR heading northbound on the highway at about 65 miles per hour veered from the No. 2 lane toward the right. Subsequently, the vehicle left the road, crashed into a creek embankment and overturned before landing on its roof.
Two Good Samaritans who saw the accident rushed to try and save the man and woman inside the overturned vehicle. However, the car caught on fire and the flames became too aggressive. Tragically, the pair, trapped in the vehicle, perished at the scene.
Authorities do not have the names and ages of the victims, but more information on this will be available soon.
At this time, authorities have much to investigate, including if alcohol played a factor. Witnesses of this crash can connect with the CHP.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the bereaved families and friends of the victims.
