Wrong-Way Driver Causes Deadly Crash on Highway 138 in Llano

LLANO, CA (April 23, 2023) – A man was killed in a wrong-way crash on Highway 138 in Llano Friday morning on April 21.

The fatal crash happened around 6:55 a.m. just east of Highway 18. According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver or gray pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 138 when it veered into the eastbound lanes. While it was traveling the wrong way, the driver of a 2013 Dodge Durango took evasive action.

However, the Durango lost control and crashed into a 2016 Kia Forte and a 2020 Toyota Tacoma.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Kia suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 45 years old from Highland.

The drivers of the Durango and Tacoma both had minor injuries.

It was unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash since the wrong-way suspect fled the scene after the crash.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact Investigating Officer C. Dehaven at the Antelope Valley area CHP Office at 661-948-8541 during business hours.
