Suspected DUI Crash on Highway 101 in Salinas Kills Driver and Badly Injures Two Passengers

 
SALINAS, CA (February 26, 2024) – A man was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a suspected DUI crash on Highway 101 in Salinas early Saturday morning on February 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:54 a.m. at the Laurel Drive exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1995 Toyota Camry was heading south on the highway with three people inside.
 
For unknown reasons, the Camry failed to negotiate the curve in the road, lost control and rolled over. It then crashed into the Laurel Drive exit sign.
 
The driver and right rear passenger, who were not wearing their seat belts, were ejected from the car.
 
Paramedics rushed all three occupants to Natividad Medical Center, where the driver succumbed to his injuries. He was 28 years old from Salinas.
 
The two passengers, a 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, suffered major injuries. Both were also Salinas residents.
 
CHP said alcohol and or drugs are suspected factors in this crash. Further investigation is underway.
