Man Killed in Traffic Accident on 15 Freeway near Friars Road [San Diego, CA]

Driver Veers Off 15 Freeway in San Diego and Dies after Hitting Box Truck

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 31, 2022) – A man was killed in a traffic accident on 15 Freeway in San Diego early Friday, July 29.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:10 a.m. near Friars Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old Spring Valley man was driving a white Chevrolet box truck when he noticed the truck had a flat tire and pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway.
 
He then got out and stood outside near the front of the truck.
 
The victim, a 27-year-old San Diego man, was driving a Toyota sedan when he veered off the roadway for unknown reasons. He then crashed into the back of box truck on the right shoulder. He was trapped inside the sedan and died at the scene.
 
The box truck pushed forward from the impact and struck the man standing in front of it. That man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
