Passenger Dies after Early Morning Three-Vehicle Accident on 80 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (March 14, 2022) – A man was killed in a three-vehicle accident on 80 Freeway in Oakland, early Saturday morning.
 
The accident happened around 2:22 a.m. on March 12 near the MacArthur Maze interchange that transitions the highway into 580 Freeway and 880 Freeway. CHP officials said the victim was a passenger of a Honda that had crashed into a disabled BMW.
 
The BMW had come to a full stop in the westbound lanes when the Honda slammed into it. A few minutes later, a pickup truck also collided with the BMW.
 
When officers arrived, they found the male passenger of the Honda suffering from significant injuries. Despite life-saving measures, the victim died at the scene.
 
The driver of the Honda was taken to a local trauma center with critical injuries, while all other people involved in the crash suffered moderate injuries.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol was involved. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
