Man Dead in Three-Car Accident on Highway 67

 
EAST COUNTY, CA (October 11, 2021) — A man died in a three-car crash on Highway 67 near Lazy Acres Drive Friday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the three-car accident happened around 1:10 p.m. For unknown reasons, a man in a northbound Honda Accord crashed into a northbound Freightliner. Subsequently, the impact caused the Honda to spin into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a southbound Toyota Highlander.
 
Soon after, paramedics arrived and brought the Honda driver to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he died. Meanwhile, paramedics tended to the 44-year-old Lakeside woman driving the Toyota and her 19-year-old female passenger, both of whom sustained moderate to major injuries.
 
Following the crash, police interviewed the 59-year-old man driving the semi-truck who appeared unharmed in the collision.
 
However, it remains unclear as to whether the Honda driver was trying to pass up the slower-moving semi-truck prior to the accident. However, anyone with more information should contact the CHP.
