40-Year-Old Man Dies after Colliding into Semi Truck on Highway 99 in Tulare County

TULARE COUNTY, CA (September 18, 2023) – A man was killed in a semi truck accident on Highway 99 in Tulare County early Friday morning on September 15.

The fatal accident happened shortly before 4:00 a.m. just south of Drive 92B near Tangus Ranch. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 40-year-old man from Tulare was driving a 2015 Kia northbound on the highway. At the same time, a 66-year-old man from Delano was driving a 2015 Freightliner, pulling a set of trailers, also northbound on the highway.

The Kia was traveling at a high rate of speed overtaking the Freightliner, when the driver allowed the Kia to travel to the left onto the median shoulder. The Kia then crashed into multiple barrels filled with water and struck the left front of the Freightliner.

As a result, the man driving the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner stopped on the shoulder. He was unharmed.
He was not hurt.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
