Driver Dies when SUV SLames into Back of Semi Truck on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (April 13, 2023) – A man was killed in a semi truck accident on 5 Freeway in the Camp Pendleton area late Tuesday morning on April 11.
The fatal crash happened around 11:57 p.m. just south of the Aliso Creek Rest Area. According to the CHP, a white Infiniti QX4 crashed into the back of a semi-truck that pulled to a stop on the freeway.
As a result, the man driving the Infiniti died at the scene. He was a 54-year-old Westminster resident.
It is unknown if there are other injuries sustained in the crash.
Camp Pendleton Fire Department and Camp Pendleton Provost Marshall’s Office also responded to the crash.
California Highway Patrol officers are still investigating as to why the driver collided into the big rig, but alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected factors in the crash.
