John Deamicis Killed in Runaway U-Haul Truck Crash on Jones Street near Geary Street

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 13, 2023) — John Deamicis died in a runaway U-Haul truck accident on Jones Street near Geary Street.
 
According to San Francisco police, the deadly incident happened Tuesday afternoon. For unknown reasons, a U-Haul truck began barreling down Jones Street.
 
Deamicis, reportedly in the runaway U-Haul truck, got out of the vehicle while it was moving and was hit by a nearby vehicle.
 
The U-Haul truck continued rolling about half a block down the steep hill and traveled through a busy intersection; however, a man was in the passenger seat as the truck rolled away. The man reportedly tried to yank on the steering wheel to swerve it into a parked FedEx truck.
 
The U-Haul subsequently slammed into the FedEx truck, likely saving multiple lives, as police mentioned.
 
Following the incident, paramedics arrived and took the seriously injured man to San Francisco General where he died. The coroner’s office later identified him as Deamicis.
 
Authorities do not know what led the U-Haul truck to roll down the hill. However, police will look into a possible mechanical failure or operator error that led to the innocent.
