WALLACE, CA (April 13, 2023) – One person died and Chad Katzakian was seriously injured after a DUI motorcycle crash in Wallace Sunday night on April 9.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 p.m. on Southworth Road, just north of White Owl Drive. According to the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department, a 66-year-old Lodi man was riding a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Southworth Road at an unknown speed when he went off the east shoulder. He then ran into two barbed-wire fences before the motorcycle came to a rest on its right side in a grass field.

The unidentified man died at the scene.

Officers added that the victim was being followed by Katzakian, 62, also from Lodi, who was riding a 2000 Harley-Davidson Road King and crashed into the field about the same time.

Katzakian suffered major injuries. Police arrested him on suspicion of DUI before being flown by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

The crash remains under investigation.
