Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas

 
ENCINITAS, CA (January 3, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas early Sunday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. on January 1, at Encinitas Boulevard. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle traveling west on Encinitas Boulevard approaching the highway struck the male pedestrian who was walking north across the boulevard.
 
After striking the victim, the driver continued west onto West B Street, fleeing the area.
 
First responders rushed the pedestrian to a hospital with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead.
 
Deputies described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan or van, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge, with damage to the front driver’s side.
