Pedestrian Dies after Struck by SUV on West Valley Parkway in Escondido

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (May 8, 2023) – A 32-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident on West Valley Parkway in Escondido Saturday evening on May 6.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. at Ninth Avenue. According to the Escondido Police Department, the male pedestrian who was wearing a dark clothing had crossed the street mid-block when a 2010 Mazda CX9 struck him.
 
Officers arrived at the scene and began life-saving efforts. The man was then taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
There was no evidence that the 57-year-old man driving the Mazda was intoxicated, police said.
 
Neither speed nor unsafe driving appear to be factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
