Man Dies after Struck by 4 Vehicles on Highway 58 in East Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 25, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 58 in East Bakersfield early Saturday morning on April 22.
The fatal accident happened around 12:05 a.m. just east of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking in the third lane of the highway when an unknown vehicle traveling westbound struck him.
The first vehicle fled the scene, leaving the man in the roadway, where he was subsequently run over by a Toyota, Tesla, and Acura.
The drivers of the Toyota, Tesla, and Acura remained at the scene and cooperated with CHP officers.
The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 39 years old from Las Cruces, New Mexico.
According to the CHP, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. An investigation is underway. They asked anyone with further information to call CHP Officer Eric Scott at 661-396-6600.
