Pedestrian Dies after Struck by SUV on Highway 108 in Sonora

 
SONORA, CA (December 10, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 108 in East Sonora late Thursday evening on December 7.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:55 p.m. on the bypass, just west of Sullivan Road near the Mono Way on-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was standing on the south shoulder of the highway when a 2012 Ford Expedition approached eastbound.
 
As the driver of the Expedition, 41-year-old Courtney Johnson of Sonora, approached the pedestrian, he suddenly stepped into the roadway directly in front of her vehicle.
 
As a result, the front of Johnson’s SUV struck the pedestrian.
 
The victim suffered major injuries and died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Johnson was not hurt in the crash.
 
It was unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
