Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Several Vehicles on 5 Freeway in Barrio Logan

 
BARRIO LOGAN, CA (January 15, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in the Barrio Logan area of San Diego late Thursday evening on January 12.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 10:45 p.m. near Sampson Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking northbound on the freeway when a gray Lexus SUV struck him.
 
Moments after, several more vehicles also hit the victim.
 
The pedestrian, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene.
 
The 55-year-old San Diego man who drove the Lexus stayed on scene after the crash. He was not injured and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
 
At this time, it is too soon to know whether the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending.
