Driver Dies in San Jose Crash on 280 Freeway after Colliding with Several Cars

SAN JOSE, CA (March 14, 2022) – A man died in a multi-vehicle accident on 280 Freeway in San Jose, late Thursday evening.
 
The accident happened around 11:17 p.m. on March 10, near Saratoga Avenue. CHP officials said the 62-year-old Santa Clara man was driving a red Honda when he made an unsafe turn from the northbound freeway onto the Saratoga Avenue off-ramp. He then collided with the left rear of a Tesla, which ended up in the east shoulder of the off-ramp.
 
The Honda traveled out of control and overturning onto one of the middle lanes of the freeway. A black Prius, a silver Hyundai and a silver Nissan then struck the Honda.
 
As a result, the man driving the Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The man’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
 
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
