Man Killed, Jonathan Quiroz Arrested in DUI Crash on Highway 99 [Sutter County, CA]

63-Year-Old Man Dies after Crash with DUI Driver on Highway 99 in Sutter County

 
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (October 21, 2023) – One person died and Jonathan Rodrigo Merin Quiroz was arrested after a DUI crash in Sutter County early Thursday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 12:20 a.m. on October 19, along Highway 99 near Sacramento Avenue. According to the CHP, the 27-year-old suspect from Yuba City was driving a red 2008 Honda Accord when he crossed into the northbound lanes. He then collided head-on with a blue Honda Pilot.
 
As a result, the driver of the Pilot died at the scene. The Sutter County Coroner’s Office only identified him as a 63-year-old Yuba City man.
 
Quiroz suffered major facial trauma and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. He was later arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
 
A passenger in the Accord suffered moderate injuries.
 
Officers are still investigating the crash. They asked anyone with further information to call the CHP’s office at 530-645-6200.
