Police Arrest Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez for DUI after Deadly Crash in Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, CA (November 29, 2022) – A man died and police arrested Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez after a DUI crash in Santa Clara early Saturday morning on November 26.
The fatal crash happened around 12:20 a.m. at San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real. According to the Santa Clara Police Department, a BMW was traveling northbound through the intersection when it was struck by a Volvo traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.
Police said the Volvo drove against a red traffic signal, entered the intersection and collided with the BMW.
As a result, a passenger in the BMW, a 31-year-old Sonoma man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his name once family members are properly notified.
Both drivers of the BMW and Volvo were taken to an area hospital with major injuries.
Mendoza-Inijuez, a 28-year-old Sonoma resident, was the one driving the Volvo. He smelled of alcohol. Police arrested him on suspicion of homicide and DUI causing injury.
