Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 74 in Homeland

 
HOMELAND, CA (August 30, 2022) – A man was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 74 in Homeland on Sunday afternoon, August 28.
 
The accident happened around 2:20 p.m. at the intersection with Sultanas Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup northbound on Sultanas when he came to a stop where the two-lane road meets the two-lane highway.
 
At the same time, a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup towing a trailer was heading east on the highway at approximately 45 mph.
 
The Tacoma pulled directly in front of the Ford causing a head-on collision.
 
Riverside County Fire Department crews responded and extricated the Tacoma driver. They attempted saving him, but he died at the scene.
 
The deceased was only identified as a 67-year-old Homeland resident.
 
It is unknown if there are other injuries sustained in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
