Man Dies after Crashing Head-On with Tractor-Trailer on Highway 4 in San Joaquin County

 
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (November 5, 2023) – A man died in a head-on accident on Highway 4 in San Joaquin County late Friday afternoon on November 3.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:30 p.m. just west of the Middle River Bridge. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Nissan Maxima westbound on the highway, in a long line of traffic. A few cars ahead, another man was driving a Mercedes Benz.
 
A tractor-trailer was heading east on Highway 4 and was approaching the Mercedes and Nissan.
 
The man driving the Nissan pulled into the eastbound lane and started to pass other vehicles in traffic.
 
The driver of the tractor-trailer applied the brakes, but the driver of the Nissan crashed head-on into the tractor-trailer. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to lose control and enter the westbound lane, crashing into the Mercedes.

As a result of the crash, the man driving the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not yet identified.

The driver of the Mercedes sustained a minor injury. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed.

Crews closed Highway 4 for about eight hours while they cleared the wreckage.

At this time, an investigation is ongoing. The CHP asked witnesses of the crash to call Tracy CHP at 209-319-4300.
