5-Vehicle Pileup on Highway 58 in Central Bakersfield Kills 1 and Seriously Injures Another

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 6, 2023) – A man died and Gurwinder Singh was seriously injured after a five-vehicle pileup in Bakersfield on Thursday, March 2.
 
The fatal crash happened on Highway 58 at H Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. Singh, a 24-year-old Lodi resident, was driving a 2016 Kenworth tractor attached to a trailer at an unknown speed when he crashed into a GMC Sierra. The impact caused a chain of crashes.
 
Singh also crashed into a Toyota Tacoma, which caused it to overturn onto its side and also collided into a trailer attached to a Volvo, CHP said. The Volvo, driven by a 40-year-old Salt Lake City man, crashed into a Bakersfield man driving a 2014 Peterbuilt.
 
The GMC driver, a 55-year-old man, died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Singh was taken to Kern Medical with major injuries.
 
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
