Fiery Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton Kills Driver and Injures 2 Passengers

 
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (June 28, 2023) – A man was killed in a fiery rollover accident on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton Sunday afternoon on June 25.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:30 p.m. just south of Cockleburr Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota SUV was traveling northbound when it veered to the right and off the roadway. It then struck a eucalyptus tree, overturned and burst into flames.
 
As a result, the driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 21-year-old Inglewood resident.
 
Two passengers in the car, a 26-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl from Georgia, were transported to a nearby hospital with moderate to major injuries.
 
At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
