Man Killed, Felipe Avalos Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash on South Broadway [South Los Angeles, CA]

Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Suspect after Fatally Striking Pedestrian in South LA

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 26, 2023) – A man died and Felipe Avalos was arrested in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles Tuesday morning on October 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:15 a.m. at South Broadway and West 117th Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 66-year-old suspect was driving an older-model Chevrolet van when he struck the male pedestrian and dragged the victim’s body to the intersection.
 
The man died at the scene. He was not yet identified. The LAPD believes he likely lived at a nearby homeless encampment.
 
Meanwhile, Avalos fled the scene after the crash.

There were some initial reports that the victim may have been intentionally struck.

On Wednesday, police found and arrested Avalos in Compton. They booked him on on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter at $50,000 bail.
