Distracted DUI Driver Causes Fatal Crash on 80 Freeway in Placer County

 
PLACER COUNTY, CA (January 30, 2023) – A man died and police arrested Donald Harmon for DUI after a multi-car crash on 80 Freeway Friday afternoon on January 27.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 4:00 p.m. near Penryn Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Harmon was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck at a rate of speed unsafe for slowing traffic ahead. He allegedly using his phone when he rear-ended the Toyota Highlander.
 
The impact caused the front of the Toyota highlander to collide with the rear end of a Toyota Sienna.
 
First responders pronounced the driver of the Toyota Highlander dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the Toyota Sienna and his passenger sustained minor injuries.
 
Harmon had moderate injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
