Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Car after Falling Off His Bike on Laurelwood Road in Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, CA (May 10, 2022) – A man died in a bicycle accident on Laurelwood Road in Santa Clara on Thursday morning.
The accident happened around 9:25 a.m. on May 5. According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the man fell off his bicycle while traveling eastbound against oncoming traffic. Meanwhile, the driver of a 2006 Toyota Prius was entering the roadway from a parking lot.
For unknown reasons, the bicyclist fell off his bicycle. The Toyota then struck him.
First responders found the bicyclist, a 72-year-old San Jose resident, suffering from significant injuries. They attempted saving him, but the victim died at the scene.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police.
Police said alcohol, drugs and distracted driving do not appear to have played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
