Man Hit and Killed by Vehicle on 805 Freeway near Highway 52 [Kearny Mesa, CA]

62-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Vehicle while Returning to Car on 805 Freeway in Kearny Mesa

 
KEARNY MESA, CA (July 30, 2023) – A man was hit and killed by a vehicle on 805 Freeway in Kearny Mesa Friday afternoon on July 28.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly after 12:00 p.m. just south of Highway 52. According to the CHP, the man who was driving a black Acura sedan was involved in a minor collision with a Freightliner semi truck on northbound 805 Freeway.
 
Both drivers pulled over, and the man crossed the transition lanes to contact the semi truck driver.
 
While attempting to return to the Acura, the man walked into the first lane of the transition ramp when a white Ford pickup truck struck him.
 
As a result, the man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 62 years old from San Diego. His name was not immediately available.
 
The driver of the pickup was unharmed and stayed on scene.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will issue a toxicology report on whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
