Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 165 and American Avenue

 
HILMAR, CA (December 7, 2022) — A died after a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 165 in Merced County on Monday, December 5.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 5:45 p.m. in the area of Highway 165 and American Avenue.
 
When officers arrived at the scene, they found out that a Honda Civic driven by a 28-year-old Hilma man was stopped on Lander Avenue. The driver was waiting to turn left into a private driveway.
 
Officers say the driver of a 2020 International tow truck did not see the Honda in time. The tow truck then crashed into the rear of the Honda. The impact pushed the vehicle into the path of an oncoming semi-truck hauling molasses.
 
Investigators said paramedics rushed the driver of the vehicle to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, where he later died.
 
Reports said the drivers of the big rig and tow truck did not sustain any injuries.
 
Both drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
 
Reports said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
