Driver Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 253 in Ukiah

UKIAH, CA (November 20, 2023) — A man died in a head-on crash on Highway 253 near Stipp Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-car crash happened around 10:52 a.m. on November 16.

For unknown reasons, a 47-year-old Santa Rosa man driving a westbound 2020 Honda Civic failed to stay in his lane. Subsequently, his Honda crossed into the opposing lane where a Ford Ranger, driven by a 79-year-old Ukiah man was moving at about 50 miles per hour.

Since neither driver was able to take evasive action, both vehicles collided in a head-on fashion. The driver of the Honda, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died in the crash. Meanwhile, the Ford Ranger driver reported moderate injuries in the collision.

Soon after, paramedics arrived and took the surviving patient to Adventist Health Hospital in Ukiah while officials transported the body to the Mendocino County Sheriff/ Coroner’s Office.

Information surrounding what led to the crash requires further investigation. If anyone has more to add, please call the CHP.

Our heartfelt sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
