Mac Smith Killed in Three-Vehicle Accident on 50th Street East [Palmdale, CA]

Three-Vehicle Crash in Palmdale Kills 1 Passenger and Injures Five Others

 
PALMDALE, CA (May 6, 2021) – Mac Smith was killed in a three-vehicle accident in the Palmdale area early Thursday morning, May 6.
 
The accident happened around 3:50 a.m. on 50th Street East, just north of Avenue P. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on 50th Street East. For unknown reasons, it veered into the northbound lanes and sideswiped a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu on the same street. The Malibu then collided with a southbound Toyota Yaris.
 
Smith, a 64-year-old Palmdale resident, was riding in the front passenger seat of the Malibu. He suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
 
The driver of the Malibu, 68-year-old Lurlene Smith of Palmdale, and her two other passengers suffered major injuries.
 
The driver of the Yaris, 32-year-old Richard Gomez of Lancaster, was also seriously injured.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Suburban, 52-year-old Michael Reinert of Lancaster, sustained moderate injuries. He was not arrested.
 
Authorities did not rule out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash. They asked anyone with further information to call the CHP Antelope Valley office at 661-948-8541.
