17-Year-Old Lydia Koelzow Dies after Solo Car Crash on Highway 132 in Sonora

 
SONORA, CA (January 1, 2024) – Authorities identified 17-year-old Lydia Koelzow of Sonora as the passenger killed in a solo car accident on Highway 132, Tuesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 26, at about 7:15 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a 2008 Subaru Outback failed to negotiate a turn and crashed into a tree near Zarzamora Street.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Koelzow dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver, identified as 20-year-old Sebastian Pendergast, was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with severe injuries. Updates on his condition remain unknown.
 
CHP believes that speed played a role in the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
