42-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Stolen Vehicle in East Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (October 27, 2023) – Luciano Carmona-Garcia died in a hit-and-run crash in East Oakland late Wednesday evening on October 25.
The fatal crash happened around 10:26 p.m. in the 4200 block of International Boulevard. According to the Oakland Police Department, the driver of a stolen Kia Sorento SUV was speeding in the eastbound lanes when they first collided with a Pontiac Vibe hatchback.
The impact of the crash caused the Kia to crash into a Ford Mustang and Chrysler Pacifica that were parked on the south curbside.
Carmona-Garcia was on the sidewalk and got pinned between the two vehicles. He suffered major injuries, including having one of his legs completely severed. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died. He was a 42-year-old Hayward resident.
The Pontiac driver was able to drive to a hospital on their own for treatment of minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen Kia fled the scene on foot.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Police are offering up to $10,000 reward money for information leading to the arrest of the hit-and-run suspect. They urged anyone with information to call them at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
