Louis Sweet, Children Hurt in Deadly 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 4 near Utica Powerhouse Road

 
MURPHYS, CA (July 24, 2023) — Louis Sweet and several children were injured in a fatal two-car accident on Highway 40 near Utica Powerhouse Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. For unknown reasons, a Bakersfield man driving a westbound 2003 Toyota Camry drifted onto the shoulder. Subsequently, his car steered back onto the highway and traveled into oncoming traffic where it plowed into a Toyota Tundra head-on.
 
In the wake of the crash, the Bakersfield man suffered fatal injuries. His passengers suffered unknown injuries and were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
 
The Toyota Tundra driver, whom reports identified as Louis Sweet, of Sonora, suffered moderate injuries. In addition, three juveniles in his car suffered minor wounds, and officials released them to family members.
 
Although the crash requires further investigation, traffic investigators believe fatigue or distracted driving may have factored into this accident. They did rule out alcohol and drugs as possible factors. Those with information can connect with the CHP.
