Juny Gow-Smith in Coma after Hit by Vehicle on Russell Boulevard [Davis, CA]

Vehicle Hits UC Davis Freshman while Cycling Leaving Her in Coma

 
DAVIS, CA (March 25, 2024) – Juny Gow-Smith is in coma after she was hit by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in Davis on March 11.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old victim was riding her bicycle westbound on the bike path when a vehicle struck her at Russell Boulevard at County Road 97.
 
The impact of the crash ejected Gow-Smith from her bicycle, causing her to strike her head on the ground. She sustained severe brain damage. Her vocal chords are also damaged from the crash.
 
Gow-Smith remains in coma at the Kaiser hospital in Vacaville, unable to breathe on her own and has pneumonia.
 
In addition to her hospitalization, Gow-Smith is expected to undergo a year of rehabilitation following her release. As of Thursday, more than 850 donors had contributed over $82,000 toward her recovery.

Gow-Smith is on the UC Davis Cycling team and club. She was cycling off campus when she was hit.

The driver who hit her stayed after the crash and cooperated with authorities.
