CHICO, CA (September 16, 2022) — A Chico police officer identified as 24-year-old Juan Valencia suffered injuries in a DUI crash.
 
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. September 15 on West 8th Street and Broadway Street.
 
The California Highway Patrol said Valencia drove west through a green light at Highway 32 and Broadway Street. At the same time, the driver of a 2013 Nissan, 25-year-old Sesar Diaz-Ruvalcaba, drove south on Broadway Street. He approached a red light when he failed to stop and collided with Valencia’s vehicle.
 
Paramedics rushed Valencia to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
 
Authorities arrested Diaz-Ruvalcaba for DUI, causing injury.
 
Officials temporarily closed the area. They reopened the intersection by 6:00 a.m.
