Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 99 in Apparent Road Rage

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (October 22, 2023) – Juan Diaz Encarnacion was killed in a road rage hit-and-run crash in Sacramento Thursday evening on October 19.
 
The fatal crash happened on Highway 99 near 12th Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Encarnacion was driving a 2023 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he sideswiped another truck towing a car-hauler or trailer.
 
Witnesses told officers that the impact of the crash caused minor damage to the left side of the Dodge. The driver in the other vehicle might not have felt it and continued south.
 
Encarnacion allegedly followed that car hauler onto southbound Highway 99, where he pulled in front of the truck and came to a total stop near 12th Avenue. He then got out to confront that other driver who sped away and somehow ran over him.
 
As a result, Encarnacion suffered significant injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he died during surgery. He was a 47-year-old Sacramento resident, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
 
Investigators asked witnesses to call CHP officers at 916-897-5600.
