Jose Togni Dies, Train Hits Big Rig on Highway 44 near Mooney Road

 
SUSANVILLE, CA (December 8, 2022)Jose Togni died after a train struck his semi-truck on Highway 44 near Mooney Road Tuesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal semi-truck accident took place around 3:46 p.m. For unknown reasons, Togni failed to stop at the railroad crossing on Highway 44 as a 2014 GE locomotive operated by BNSF Railway approached the scene.
 
Subsequently, the train crashed into the front of his 2023 Freightliner, which was hauling a 53-foot box trailer heading eastbound at an unknown speed.
 
In the wake of the crash, the 64-year-old from Goodyear, Ariz., died in the accident. Neither of the BNSF Railway crew members reported any injuries.
 
It’s unclear what led to the accident, but an ongoing investigation should confirm these ambiguous details.
