Father and Son Killed, Jovan Cortez Detained in DUI Crash on Marks Avenue at North Avenue
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (May 3, 2021) — Jose Castillo and his son died in a DUI accident on Marks Avenue at North Avenue Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the DUI crash happened around 8:00 p.m. For suspected DUI-related reasons, 22-year-old Jovan Adam Cortez ran a stop sign at the intersection. Subsequently, his northbound truck slammed into a Cadillac Escalade carrying a family.
As a result of the impact, several people in the Escalade ejected from the vehicle. Unfortunately, 45-year-old Castillo and 7-year-old Jose Castillo Jr. had been among those ejected. Tragically, the father and son died in the crash.
Per reports, Castillo Jr.’s mother, a 7-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl suffered serious injuries, as well. Meanwhile, Cortez and his 10-month-old daughter survived the crash.
Following the accident, officers arrested Cortez for DUI, among other charges. However, the crash remains under investigation. If anyone has more details, please call the CHP.
